The National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) joins the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in bringing the stage to wider audiences, as the art of performance continues to thrive in the digital space. National Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation, Inc. (NAMCYA) was founded formally in 1973. It was created by virtue of Presidential Proclamation 1173, which declares the period between 26 November and 2 December every year as National Week for Young Artists. The NAMCYA seeks to encourage young artists to excel in performance, and to preserve, develop, and promote Philippine music as art and as a handmaid of cultural development. Competitions are held from the divisional up to the regional levels; the first prize winners then come to Manila to vie for national honors in the main categories of Choral Performance, Solo Voice and Instruments, Solo Rondalla, and Rondalla Ensemble, in both Western art music and Philippine indigenous and folk music traditions. Through the Rondalla and Traditional Ensemble Categories, the NAMCYA has positively encouraged the appreciation and development of these unique Filipino musical traditions.
