This year, because of the pandemic many people will be unable to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival under the same roof. So at Shangri-La we want to help evoke the true meaning of this festive holiday and give recognition and support to those who continue to be impacted by separation.​ ​ We want to share some of the inspiring stories from our dedicated team members, whose talent and creativity help deliver each Shangri-La guest experience.​ Today we focus on Marilyn Sales, Executive Housekeeper Outdoor. Adventure. The life I used to enjoy. I started climbing in 2017 and at first I was hesitant due to health reasons. It was a hard time for me as I do not have any mountaineering gear or shoes that are essential in climbing. A lot of questions in my mind and realizations happened after. Reaching the summit is a fulfilling thing but one thing I love in mountaineering is it gives you peace of mind and unexplainable relief from all the stress of life. From that first climb, I told myself this is not the last time I will climb but only the start of many more mountains. I want to be an inspiration to other people who has RHD (Rheumatic Heart Disease). I have RHD when I was born and I am happy to share that last 2020 I got fully healed and cleared from my RHD. Another reason for climbing is for my friend who has cancer. Due to her illness she could not travel and do mountaineering. I became her feet. Every time I hike I send her pictures and videos. It’s my promise to her that every year on her birthday I will greet her on top of the mountain. Which I did, until last year when the pandemic came. Due to so many restrictions I was not able to do mountaineering anymore which made me sad and a little weak sometimes. To continue my promise to my friend, I go to different places which I can visit for her. From waterfalls, hills, a place with lots of trees or simply the sunset view of our hotel - I will still send her pictures for her to be happy.
