Aiming to further uphold active transportation in celebration of the National Bicycle Day, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with the City Government of Pasay, SM Cares and SM Prime Holdings, Inc., volunteers from Tropang Women Bikers Club (CAMANAVA), and BeeSeekleta for Every Juan, held a bicycle clinic for kids from 7AM to 8AM on 26 November 2022 at SM by the Bay, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. The program, actively participated by thirty (30) children together with their parents, as identified by the Pasay City Social Welfare Department, also bids to set forth the paramount role and essence of inclusivity and how progress should be as sustainable as it is achievable. Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano spearheaded the event, and conveyed her support in promoting cycling as a sustainable form of transport which is aligned with the city government's goal in making Pasay an eco city. One of the highlights of the event is the bicycle clinic for kids, which taught them the basics of road safety, particularly the importance of wearing safety gear properly, reading and following road signs, and doing hand signals while riding a bicycle. Representatives of the DOTr’s Active Transport Program Management Office, Engr. James Nolasco and Ms. Lalaine Correa, provided an apt briefing vis-Γ -vis road safety and the benefits of cycling to the participants. Further, bicycle food carts were given to six (6) women street vendors and six (6) SM Foundation "Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan" barangay leaders as beneficiaries of the SM "PadyaKabuhayan Program" being implemented in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), with the ultimate aim of providing additional livelihood for the beneficiaries, while promoting sustainable transport. The bicycle clinic was then followed by a short trail experience within the premises where kids rode bicycles lent by Decathlon Philippines. SM Cares also provided safety gears for kids and bike safety manuals during the event. SM Senior Assistant Vice President for Mall-based Business Units & Operations Queenie Dizon-Rodulfo, on the other hand, acknowledged the company’s efforts in helping create a nation where sustainable transportation such as cycling can provide livelihood to people, and improve the lifestyle and wellbeing of every Filipino. Also present during the event were SM Vice President for Commercial Properties Group Alexis Ortiga, Prime Executive Glenn Ang, Senior Vice President for Marketing Jonjon San Agustin, and Vice President for Operations Premier 3 Region Perkin So. #DOTrπŸ‡΅πŸ‡ #RoadSectorWorks #ActiveTransportation #NationalBicycleDay
