UV nail polish driers can cause skin cancer π #SkintelSunday #skintelligence β CARCINOGEN UVA is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a Group 1 carcinogen. You already get it outdoors and (unlike UVB) even on cloudy days and through windows. This is the same UVA in your nail polish drier. π NEW STUDY While the dangerous effects of UVA from the sun and tanning beds have been well documented, a new study from the University of California San Diego validates that the UVA from nail polish driers specifically may also cause cancer. π BROWN & BLACK SKIN Melanoma in people with darker skin tones tends to occur on or under the fingernails or toenails, or on the soles of the feet or palms of the hands β all areas directly exposed to the UVA in these driers. π€ WHAT TO DO? Avoid UV-emitting driers if possible or at the very least (re)apply sunscreen generously over hands, feet, and nails before using one. We should be applying a sunscreen on our hands every day anyway β along with our faces, they get the most sun and light exposure. Do the same for your feet when wearing sandals.
