Today is Pi Day, March 14th, using the first three digits of Pi! Pi is an irrational number, meaning that its decimal representation goes on infinitely without repeating. It has been calculated to over 31 trillion digits with certainty in 2019 and 2021, making the total number of decimal places to over 62 trillion digits! Yet, only the first few dozen are needed to make extremely precise calculations for most real-world applications, like for rockets going into outer space. The current Guinness World Record for the most digits of Pi memorized is held by Akira Haraguchi from Japan, who recited 100,000 digits from memory in 2006. Pi is not only used for solving circumferences, but it is even involved in your favorite animated movies. It has been used to model the behavior of hair and fur in computer graphics. Find out where else you can use Pi when you explore The Mind Museum. Join us on March 16 at the Canopy Plaza! Write a Science Pi-ku and get a free slice of pizza. Activity is open to the public while supplies last. #PiDay #TheMindMuseum #ScienceComesAlive
