Your #NationalMuseumPH is proud to present the conversion of the Old Customs House of the Port of Cebu and former Malacañan sa Sugbo into the National Museum Cebu during a Preview Ceremony held last Friday, June 24, 2022. NMP BOT Chairperson Luli Arroyo-Bernas and Director-General Jeremy Barns together with former DOT Secretary now Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy-Governor Bernadette Romulo Puyat, Cebu Port Authority (CPA) General Manager Leonilo Miole, and NMP Trustee Philip Rodriquez led the unveiling of the Markers of Appreciation. The markers are dedicated to His Excellency President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the Cebu Port Authority, and the Department of Tourism for their generous support and partnership in the restoration and conversion of the old Customs House into the NMP Cebu. Constructed during the American Period, the old Customs House or Aduana Building are among the many infrastructures designed and built by American architect William Parsons in the early 1900s, along with the Philippine General Hospital and the Gabaldon schools. During the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the building was converted into the Malacañan sa Sugbo. Restoration and adaptive reuse of this building was made possible with funding from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone (TIEZA). As of today, 50% of the restoration works has been completed. In her message during the preview ceremony, Chair Luli emphasized that Cebu “is a very important hub in our nation teritorrially, culturally, and historically and we want to honor that by establishing our regional office here in Cebu." Meanwhile, the Cebuanos excitedly await for the completion and public opening of the National Museum Cebu at the end of this year. Photos credit to Mr. Aldo Banaynal from the Freeman
