“Vitiligo is a white patch that affects the soul." -Dr. Iltefat Hamzavi Anyone—children and adults representing all ethnicities equally—can get #vitiligo at any time. 70 million people across the world or nearly 1% of the population have this skin disorder that causes depigmentation (loss of skin color) in irregular patchy patterns. It is thought to be an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks and kills cells that make skin color. White or light patches caused by vitiligo tend to occur more commonly in sun-exposed areas, such as hands, feet, arms, face, and lips. However, these patches can also occur in the armpits, groins, eyes, navel, genitals, and rectal areas. Vitiligo is NOT contagious, neither fatal nor life-threatening, it is a completely separate condition and not related to skin cancer, leprosy, or albinism, but there is a social stigma that results in lowered self-esteem among those with this kind of medical condition. Let’s shine a light on the skin conditions that are often misunderstood. #CareToBare #VnMNaturals #loveyourself #loveyourskin #bodypositivity #bodycare #skincarebrand #skincareph #smallbusinessph #localph #selflove
