The National Museum of the Philippines joins the City of Manila in commemorating its 451st founding anniversary today! Sitting at the core of what was once the kingdom and trading turf of Rajah Sulayman, Manila was established as a Spanish settlement by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi #OnThisDay in 1571. It later received the royal title “El Muy Insigne y Siempre Leal Ciudad” - The Most Distinguished and Ever Loyal City of the Spanish empire. For centuries, Manila has witnessed various important episodes in our history and has been one of the major centers of government, economy, culture, and many aspects of our national life. Since the National Museum of Fine Arts is still closed, you may view our 360 virtual reality tour of Carlos V. Francisco’s “Filipino Struggles Through History” featuring important historical events of the nation as seen through the eyes of Manila! You may access the virtual tour here: https://www.nationalmuseum.gov.ph/nmfa360/HTML5/NMFA360.html This monumental series of paintings was commissioned in 1968 for the Manila City Hall by Mayor Antonio J. Villegas. As we mark this historic day, we invite you all to visit us at the National Museum of Anthropology and the National Museum of Natural History! We are open today from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM. Admission is FREE! #NMPArawNgMaynila #ManilaDay2022
