4 simple ways to get over work-from-home blues
by Gabriel Cadiz

Since the start of the quarantine period due to the pandemic, many businesses have temporarily shifted their operations to a work-from-home setup. A major perk of working from home is convenience. More time is saved for the employees as there is no need to commute to and from office anymore. More importantly, a work from home setup keeps their employees much safer in the current situation.

Even though many find a work-from-home setup more practical and comfortable, especially during this time, there are still some who get overwhelmed by the idea. Working hours sometimes tend to extend. One may be less productive as there is no physical separation between work life and home life.

If you are one of those people who are now working from home and feeling stressed, you may be experiencing work-from-home burnout.

Here are some other symptoms of work-from-home burnout:

  • Lack of energy/exhaustion
  • Increased mental distance on your job (negative thoughts about work/job)
  • Reduced professional efficiency

While work-from-burnout is a real concern, there are several ways that you can do to beat the blues. You can start with these four easy ways:

1. Take a day-off ASAP even when you’re only at home.

Make sure on that day, you won’t worry or think about work. Distance yourself from anything related to work that might stress you out.

2. Set boundaries and limits

Create and follow a schedule that would work for you. Establish a routine where you know when to start and end work, and try your best to to follow that.

3. Re-create your “commute”

Your time going to and from work is a part of your old routine. Do what you usually do before and after work, like listening to music or a podcast, taking a walk (safely, of course), or talking to people around you (you can also call your friends for a brief chat just to take your mind off work).

4. Practice self-care

During your off days, do what you like doing best to relax, like watching a movie, enjoying your hobbies, or as simple as having a nice bath/shower. De-stress yourself and try to have more fun around you when you're off work.

Remember, work-life balance also applies when you are working from home to keep yourself from burning out during these new times. Stay safe, everyone!
