Bianca Festejo: From The Corporate World To Owning A Salon
by Angelique Borja

With Bianca Festejo, it started by following her gut. The millennial proprietor of Bianca Festejo Hair and Skin, formerly known as The Beauty Lounge by Bianca Festejo, used to work in a hotel and was into a fish pond business in Rizal before venturing into a beauty salon. Festejo recalled that her best friend encouraged her to have a salon instead. Knowing nothing about running this kind of business, Festejo still took a leap of faith, considered her best friend’s advice, and invested her savings to franchise a beauty salon brand which she opened in 2015.

“All I knew was I want [my own] business because I didn’t want to work for a company anymore – it’s not for me.”
"

Festejo’s salon franchise was a success that they opened a second branch a year after. She soon realized that having a salon was the perfect business for her. Later on, she became more passionate about beautifying people that she also took courses about skin care, learned permanent makeup, and attended trainings with her staff. “When you open your business, you need to love what you do,” Festejo said.

Bianca Festejo Hair and Skin: Beauty from head to toe

Festejo said the idea of having a one-stop salon is to cater to everything that women need when they want to pamper themselves. Bianca Festejo Hair and Skin offers a variety of beauty services from head to toe: hair styling, permanent makeup, skin care, and nail care. “What really separates us from the rest is that I’m very hands-on. I take things seriously when it comes to client feedback,” she added.

Festejo studied Masters in Eyebrow locally and attended permanent makeup trainings in Spain, Canada, and Dominican Republic to further hone her skill. She now also offers eyebrow microblading course at Bianca Festejo Hair and Skin.

Starting your own business

Because of her success story, Festejo has been invited as life coach in various seminars in the country to talk about having a positive mental attitude. She said that her goal now is to help aspiring entrepreneurs. “It starts with deciding what business you want to put up. Expect that having your own business is more difficult than being an employee,” she added.

“You’re never too young to start a business.”
"

Festejo pondered that it’s much better to gamble into business when you are younger because you can still recuperate and go back to work if it doesn’t succeed. On the other hand, it’s too risky to invest all of your life savings when you’re older because there’s a minimal chance of getting back to being an employee.

Her advice to millennials, “If you’re not happy with your job, I completely understand. Find something that you really love and dedicate your everything in making that successful.”
