Fun Date Ideas for the 'Kuripot' Couples
by Angelique Borja

Date on a weekend instead? G!

It’s Love Month once again and the world of social media is already flooded with romantic gifts and date night ideas to choose from. Aside from anniversaries and monthsaries, Valentine’s Day is quite a big deal of a celebration for every couple. But if you and your partner are trying to avoid spending on fancy restaurants and lavish gifts, moreso the horrific Payday-Friday-traffic, here’s a list of exciting activities that you can try together this weekend!

Go museum hopping

This weekend is the best time to visit museums since most couples are going to the malls. Aside from engulfing yourselves in endless history and arts, strolling in the nearby parks is also refreshing and relaxing. You may plan a museum hopping from the National Museum and Museum of Natural History to National Planetarium in Manila.

Binge-watch your favorite movies

Play either your favorites or your must-watch picks. Binge-watching is probably on your to-dos this weekend so here’s a list of all-time favorite romantic comedy films for a dose of positive vibes, with probably a few little teary-eyed moments. All you have to do is microwave the store-bought popcorn, chill your drinks, and jump in your comfiest pair of pajamas.

Set up a candlelight dinner at home

Now is the time to actually put into test those mouthwatering three-minute cooking videos you saved while scrolling through your newsfeed. A simple dish or two would be okay, plus a bottle of wine with a romantic table set up. It’s much sweeter and cheaper compared to dining out in a fancy restaurant.

Play at an arcade

If you really can’t help but visit the malls, playing at an arcade is something that you should do (again!) Relive your childhood memories and have a friendly competition with your significant other.

Play board games

Take a step back from playing mobile games even just for this weekend and play your good old board games instead. If you don’t have your own, there are cafes in Metro Manila offering board games that you can play with.

Record a video of your own couple challenge

A lot of YouTube vloggers are doing their own versions of couple challenges and honestly, they all look cute and funny! It’s purely about making fun of each other but who cares? It’s okay to be silly at times especially if you are doing it with the person who unconditionally loves you. It’s something that’s worth reminiscing and entertaining to watch at in the future!

Volunteer together at a non-profit organization

A good start would be joining organizations that’s close to your heart. If both of you are dog lovers, you can visit an animal shelter and take time to play with the dogs. You may contact organizations like CARA Welfare Philippines and Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to learn more on how you can help stray and abandoned animals. It's a great chance for you to get to know each other on a new level.

Borrow or rent bikes and go sight-seeing

We now live in a fast-paced life that we tend to overlook the beauty of the city. Biking with your significant other is the most eco-friendly and convenient way of touring around the metro. If you want to rent bikes and join a tour at the same time, Bambike Ecotours offers guided tours around Intramuros in Manila while riding a bike made from bamboo.
