Marvel fans unite! Thor: Ragnarok is showing in the Philippine cinemas this Wednesday, October 25, 2017! A special movie premiere was held at the cinemas of the brand-new Ayala Mall Vertis North in Quezon City last October 18, 2017. The event was graced by critics, local celebrities, influencers, and the press, all excited to watch Thor as he faces a new threat in order to save Asgard, his home.
The movie follows Thor and his adventures as he looks for more clues about his visions from the last Avengers movie. He learns about Ragnarok, the destruction of his home world Asgard, and tries to find a way to prevent it from happening - all the while anticipating the return of Hela, the goddess of death, who plans to wreak havoc through the galaxy. Thor goes through his cosmic adventure with the help of the strongest Avenger the incredible Hulk, his brother Loki, and The Valkyrie.
Thor: Ragnarok, which is directed by indie movie scene star Taika Waititi, is gunning to be the funniest Marvel movie to date. I’m not kidding; Waititi brought in his dry humor and inflicted it seamlessly in this film, making this movie the best Thor film yet. The movie brings you to a colorful cosmic adventure with the god of thunder doing his best to save Asgard. Chris Hemsworth, with his best performance as Thor yet, has fully embraced the role, wielding the hammer around and proving everyone that he is the true god of thunder, and Asgard’s best bro. Spectacular performances from the others as well, especially Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, who proved that she is worthy of the role, despite her doubters since the day she was casted. Tom Hiddleston as Loki also brought his wit and charm, and will surely win the hearts of lady Marvel fans (as if he hasn’t won yours yet) as the god of mischief. Mark Ruffalo gave the character more heart as the timid Bruce Banner transforms to the green monster the Hulk, which is really incredible.
Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum have played the antagonist roles amazingly well. Blanchett as Hela, the goddess of death, brings her unworldly powers to wreak havoc across the galaxy. Goldblum’s personality and humor work as he made the Grandmaster a likeable villain in charge of Sakaar, a world where an arena made to take champions from across the galaxy to pit them against each other for entertainment.
All of these characters play upon a script built around an adventure filled with humor without losing the heavy constant plot of the film. In a world filled dark and gritty superhero films and shows, Thor: Ragnarok brought flashy action, jokes, and one of the best Marvel superhero bro duos to date. Mark Mothersbaugh’s synth-pop rock score highlights the flashy 80's feel cosmic themes and effects. Definitely, the movie sets a new bar and standard for the next Marvel films to follow after.
